About
Oval Studio is an award-winning architectural design and research practice based in Athens, Greece. The Studio works across Residential Architecture, Summer Houses, Office Architecture, Cultural Projects and Urbanism, combining design Research with a human-centered approach to create meaningful spaces and lasting impact on people’s lives.
Through numerous commissions, Oval Studio has developed a strong expertise in the design of single-family residences, residential projects and summer houses, as well as office and workplace environments. Each project is approached as an opportunity to respond to its specific context, program and users, creating architecture that connects people, place and everyday life.
Alongside its built work, the Studio has established a broad and rich Design and Research base through numerous participations and awards in Architectural, Urban Design and Ideas Competitions. This continuous research informs our everyday practice, allowing ideas, methods and experiences developed through competitions to generate new approaches to real-life projects.
Our work extends across different scales—from residential architecture and summer houses to offices, cultural architecture and urbanism—while maintaining a consistent interest in the relationship between architecture, landscape, people and place.
We understand our work as a living garden: seeds that were planted long ago and continue to be planted every day have grown into a strong network of roots, branches and leaves—foundations, concepts, research and real-world expertise.
We see ourselves as gardeners who take care of this evolving garden. Together with our clients and collaborators, we cultivate ideas and transform them into architecture—allowing them to grow further into a forest of meaningful spaces, thoughtful concepts and real-life projects.
People
Dimitris Zoupas is a registered Architect in Greece and the Design Principal of Oval Studio. He holds a Diploma of Architecture from the National Technical University of Athens (2005) and a Master of Design from the Harvard Graduate School of Design (2011).
He has established numerous collaborations in Greece and abroad; StudioEIKA in New York,Pei
Zhu Architects in Beijing, Byoung Soo Cho Architects in Seoul, Holzer Kobller Architekturen in Berlin. Dimitris has served as a Design Consultant to the Greek Minister of Culture.
ILIA is a multi-task creator: conceptual artist, musician, composer, designer. As a Design
Associate she has a growing involvement in the work and Identity of the Studio.
Through the years we have had the pleasure to collaborate with wonderful young professionals
