Hotel - Lodge / Competition / TERRA ULTIMA
TERRA ULTIMA
The proposed space is part of a hotel lobby. The surroundings could be somewhere along the coast of southern Italy.
The design creates a formal vocabulary in dialogue with the tubular form of the radiator.
The design is literal as much as it is conceptual.
It is a space as much as it is a scenography.
The duality of the radiator is reproduced in the duality of the column. The columns point back to the cultural heritage of Roman Architecture but also act as a visual counterbalance to the radiator. The unusual arrangement of the columns is at the end anti-classical; thus we enter again a conceptual space.
Along the same line furniture is at the same time literal and conceptual. A sphere in the foreground seems to be devoid of function. It borrows again from the roundness of the radiator but also the column. A reference again to a Classical and Renaissance past.
We see in the closed form of the Tubone a real strength – a design that dictates its environment rather than being absorbed by it. A design that creates a lasting impression on the inhabitant of the space it is inserted in.
